Introduction –

We live in a time of significant growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and we are bearing witness to ever more computers being built with algorithms that have the potential to automate decision making. We see this in new self-driving automobiles, medical diagnostic tools, drone technologies, legal research, language translation services and many more applications. Within this context, on June 16, 2022, the Canadian government tabled Bill C-27 “An Act to enact the Consumer Privacy Protection Act, the Personal Information and Data Protection Tribunal Act and the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act and to make consequential and related amendments to other Acts,” which includes the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA).
